For Clarification of Terms with Determiners shida and shiga

Abstract

This article refers to the unification of terms composed with shida and shiga synonymous pair. Concurrent use of such terms is quite common not only in dictionaries, but in scientific texts and media language. This is undesirable for the terminology system.
Special normative dictionaries clearly favor shiga, which can probably be explained by its semantic transparency. In addition, adverb shig is still active in Georgian literary language, whereas shid is merely preserved in dialect. The advantage of using shiga is also supported by the fact that in composite terms, in any position, only shiga is verified.
