Terminology Policy and Language Planning in Sweden

The article examines language planning and linguistic situation in Sweden in connection with terminology and language standardization. As a result of big flows of migrants, as well as historically existing ethnic and language minorities the country has developed well-set language planning policies.
First I overview the linguistic situation in Sweden and name some spe-cific issues which should be taken into consideration in order to characterise the Swedish model of LPP. Main aspects are 1. Functioning of the English language in Sweden and 2. European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages by ratification of it Sweden recognised five official minority languages: Sami, Meänkieli, Finnish, Roma, and Yiddish.
Social and political factors led to the government to develop a legal framework of caring for the Swedish language, that is called Language Act which came into force in 2009. I analyse the core principles of language planning in accordance with the Act and highlight the article concerning the Swedish terminology.
The main part of the article consider Swedish Terminology National Centre (TNC) and its activities towards creating, establishing and imple-menting Swedish terms for various spheres. Some of their projects are discussed in the article, such as TISS and National Termbank (Rikstermban-ken).
In the last part of the article I discuss the cooperation of the center on the regional and international levels, such as Nordic network of terminological issues and EU.
