Digestion of Mathematical terminology mainly begins from the school-age. Incorrect concepts are embedded in one’s memory and later it is difficult to replace them with correct ones. This situation is complicated by the fact that there is no strictly defined list of currently used terms, the impact of widespread foreign terms is strong and the attempt of Georgian society to find and establish new ones is insufficient.
It is generally agreed that the term is tested by time - the best one will displace the worse one. In our opinion, just relying on time may spoil the language as when it is not cared about it becomes unprotected and incorporates unsuitable terms. For example, searching and using terms without a critical approach gives rise to such curiosities as „ვიეტას თეორემა“ (a miserable translation of Russian "Теорема Виета“ denoting French „Viete’s pro¬po-sition") instead of „ვიეტის თეორემა”. The wrong term, was used in Georgian for years.
Rich Georgian vocabulary gives an opportunity to create new mathematical terms and refine the old ones, which represents important national work requiring common and constant efforts on the part of mathematicians and linguists. Their involvement in establishment of these terms is important too.
