The Georgian rugby terminology has so far developed through the talks between the players, coaches, officials, administrators and media, ie native Georgian speakers and writers involved in dicussions about the Game. The terminology is created and developed far from what is meant as systematic terminological work, only on the basis of personal opinions and taste, albeit following certain principles.
This resulted in great diversity of the terms and sometimes, contra-dictions. Self-cenzorship also gives radical difference for terms when in informal interactions among professionals and when same people speaking in public. The terms are regulated and standartized only by means of periodical publication of permanently altering, complicated Laws of the Game, and technical manuals.
When creating Georgian terms for the Lawbook and use by media, we try to maintain the following principles:
1) A term should be smart, short and expressed only in one word;
2) It should be precise in reflecting the essence of the notion;
3) It should be based on the Georgian language data;
4) In case, we could not manage to create the term or could not find the corresponding Georgian word, we leave the original English term hoping that next generations will reach the objective - to find the accurate Georgian term for it.
