Georgian language is rich of its capabilities to express any phenomenon to its full degree, including the words belonging to the sphere of the legal life of the society. Georgian legal language is quite flexible to reflect relevant events, but it should be noted that our language is not duly protected from the influence of the foreign terminology and this can be observed beginning from the ancient times.
But nowadays, the Georgian legal terminolgy is under particularly strong foreign influences, as scientific writings and legislative regulations written in the countries with highly developed legislation system are frequently used in our scientific and practical activities. Even more, sometimes the georgian author is not familiar with the great term-creating capabilities of the native language and automatically borrows a foreign term.
In course of time, the Georgian legal terminolgy is subjected to stronger influences of foreign terminology influences. So, we consider it our ultimate goal to protect the native terminology and native language in general; of course, it means protecting the language on the basis of the clause 8 of the constitution. The special legislation act should be created defining the cases when the language should be protected. As far as we know, many countries in the world have obtained good experiences in this area. On the ground of the above mentioned, we think, it should be requested from our parlaiment to establish a group of experts in order to develop the draft of the law about the language protection.
