The formation of the modern Georgian economic terminology originates from the 20-30s of the 20th century, when the first volume of Karl Marx’s famous work – “Capital” was translated into Georgian and published. In 1947, Russian - Georgian and Georgian - Russian economic terminology was published for the first time authored by Acad. P. Gugushvili and P. Kuchaidze. During this period, the formation of Georgian economic terminology went on the basis of the Russian and German economic terms.

The process of transition to a market economy created objective conditions of expanding Georgian economic terminology. This period can be divided into two stages: the 20s of the 20th century, when new Georgian economic terms were forming, still under the influence of the Russian language and the 2000s, when new Georgian economic terms were forming under the
influence of English with frequent displacement of Georgian ones.

New economic terms are often misused. Their formation is paralleled by the old mistakes, as Georgian language diversity is not used. There are frequent mistakes in reporting statistical information. Economic (and not only
economic) terms are misused even by politicians and journalists, as well as, sadly, by economists.

To create and establish modern Georgian terms, it is advisable to strengthen the role of the Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics. For that reason, the government should make a special decision on the basis of which the institute will have an exclusive right to create terms together with the relevant specialists.

On the basis of the Linguistics Institute, specified terminological commissions, which will work on the terminology of a specific field with the relevant experts, should be created. The recommendations of these Commissions should be submitted to the Scientific Council of the Institute of Linguistics.
