disk’ursi “discourse” is a widely used term in modern Georgian. It is used differently in various fields of science as well as in everyday speech.
The varied meanings make it difficult to comprehend the term. The present paper deals with this problem.
Based on the special works about different specialized dictionaries and terms, we have found the meanings of the term, learnt much about its origin and the history of development. As a result, we have a picture that is
perfectly described by the following excerpt: “As we can see no definition is clear and complete: sometimes is denotes the combination of
texts, sometimes it refers to the relationship in discourse practices or the type of communication. It should be taken into account that in all the said fields (text linguistics, discourse analysis, sociology, social semiotics, logic and philosophy) the word discourse is defined differently, which means that the definition is not uniform even within different scientific knowledge” (Omiadze 2006: 18).
