The influx of new concepts and terms into the language is associated with technical progress, which has been particularly booming in the last 50 years. The introduction of foreign terms is classed as harmful to the language, but it is also impossible to avoid them completely. However, when it comes to replacing the proven and established terms in the term bank with new ones, it can only bring harm. From this standpoint, we will examine the "Great Visual Encyclopedia" translated into Georgian.

Having discussed the terms in the mentioned encyclopedia, we arrived at the conclusion that, in most cases, the concepts and definitions of the terms denoting them do not correspond. In most cases, the "specific word meaning" does not match the illustration either.

For example, the term "durable machinery" describes the bulldozer, tractor, wheel loader, scraper, farming mechanisms, etc. However, the term "durable" is vague; it is also unclear why this new term is proposed and on what basis we should attribute this or that machine mechanism to the category of "durable". There are also inaccuracies regarding the usage and definition of the names of the parts of the mechanisms.

The article discusses a small part of the terms given in a specific part of the encyclopedia, in which the inconsistency of the definitions of terms denoting the concepts is particularly apparent, which indicates a damaging approach to the terminology and, in general, to the issue. This state must be corrected by the joint work of specialists, translators and terminologists.
